Ross pursued mixed careers of law and journalism after studying law at Melbourne and London Universities. He edited the Melbourne University newspaper, “Farrago”, worked for the Aboriginal Legal Aid Service in Alice Springs and wrote for a London newspaper before returning to Melbourne to practice law.
Since returning to his family business in 1980, Ross has been involved in many community activities, particularly in education and river management. He helped establish Fairley Leadership and chaired it for its first 10 years and was a director of SPC Ardmona for a similar period.
A founding director of the Goulburn Valley Community Fund, he also chairs of the Goulburn Valley Hospital Foundation. He was also co-convenor of Foodbowl Unlimited and chairs the Victoria’s Foodbowl Marketing Committee, which seeks to
leverage regional growth projects off the Foodbowl Modernization Project.
Ross is a director of the Newspaper Publishers’ Association, a past president of the International Newspaper Marketing Association and a member of the Melbourne University Council. Ross has recently accepted a position as Deputy Chancellor of Melbourne University.
